About Quarantine

Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.

During quarantine, remain in your assigned quarantine space and do not have others enter this space. You are expected to submit daily symptom monitoring through our online secure health record system, Sara Alert. You will receive a daily text with a link to the system. The completion of this monitoring is a crucial piece of your health management and the quarantine process. Your cooperation is sincerely appreciated.

COVID-19 testing is highly recommended approximately seven days after your exposure. However, a negative test result does not release you from quarantine. The cost for testing ranges between $20 to $52. Funding assistance may be available in certain situations.

Quarantine Spaces

Farrar Hall is located at 601 W. 10th St, across from the Gale Bullman Multi-purpose building.  Farrar is co-op style housing with each co-op consisting of a full kitchen, several individual bedrooms, and a community bathroom with individual shower and toilet stalls. Each bedroom has a bed with linens, and a desk and chair. Laundry facilities are located on the ground floor of Altman Hall, located next to Farrar.

Quarantine in Greek Housing

Each fraternity and sorority, with a university-approved housing status, has developed and submitted an operational plan, which includes protocols for quarantine and/or isolation. Please reference your chapter’s plan, available through its leaders and posted at involvement.mst.edu/fraternityandsororitylife.

About Isolation

Students in isolation have tested positive for COVID-19 and are contagious.

During isolation, you should stay in your assigned isolation space and should not invite others to enter this space. You are expected to submit daily symptom monitoring. This will be completed through our online secure health record system, Sara Alert. You will receive a daily text with a link to the system. The completion of this monitoring is a crucial piece of your health management and the isolation process. Your cooperation is sincerely appreciated.

Assistance

You will have a dedicated care manager throughout your quarantine or isolation period who will contact you regularly to check in. The care manager will be your resource for dining, academic and ongoing logistical support. It is important that you respond to care managers and health staff regularly. Please provide information honestly and answer any other questions that may be asked to the best of your ability. Your answers will help us to work with your health care provider and/or local health department to determine when your quarantine will end.

Care management services will provide official notification to your faculty members and assist you with dining options. Contact your care manager if you have general questions or need assistance during quarantine or isolation.

Meals

On Campus

Upon being assigned to quarantine or isolation housing, students will be contacted with options and given instructions on the process for ordering meals. Accommodations are available for allergies and dietary restrictions. Your Care Manager can assist you with questions about dining. Please notify your Care Manager of your dining plan.

Meals will be delivered by University Dining Services to students staying in university quarantine or isolation facilities. All deliveries will be non-contact and will be left at the exterior door of your apartment. Meals will be delivered cold or frozen and are microwaveable. S&T Dining deliveries are typically made by 11:30am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; however, exceptions are made as needed. Students will be contacted by phone upon delivery.

A university meal plan, Declining Balance Dollars (DBD) or Miner Bucks may be used for payment of meals and commodity items. Students may purchase Miner Bucks using the Get App. Students can also order Papa John’s using the GET app to pay with DBDs or Miner bucks.

If you are staying in university housing and do NOT have a meal plan, DBDs or Miner Bucks, you may still order meals and commodities from S&T Dining. These items will be charged to your student account. Average daily cost for quarantine/isolation meals provided by Missouri S&T Dining is approximately $24 per day.

For any questions regarding Missouri S&T Dining Service quarantine meal delivery, please contact Brittanie Kircher at Brittanie.Kircher@compass-usa.com or call/text 573-201-7785.

Off campus

If you are quarantining or isolating off campus, you will be responsible for your groceries. Your care manager can assist you with a list of local Rolla options. If you live off campus and have a university meal plan, please consult with your care manager to discuss possible options, or contact Brittanie Kircher at Brittanie.Kircher@compass-usa.com, or call/text 573-201-7785.

Kroger and Aldi are available for grocery delivery through Instacart. Another option is to have a friend pick up your groceries and deliver them to your door. If you live with others, please do not have contact with them while you are preparing your meals and wipe down any shared surfaces. It’s preferable to have a roommate prepare the food and set it outside of your door to further minimize your time in shared spaces.

Shared Living Spaces

If you share a bathroom with others, be sure to clean surfaces before and after use. Your time spent in shared spaces should be limited. Try to avoid being in the shared space at the same time as others to limit contact.

After Hours and Weekends

If you are experiencing shortness of breath or you condition is worsening, call 911 for advice. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If it not an emergency, email covid@mst.edu.

Monitor Your Symptoms

You need to report daily using Sara Alert. This helps Missouri S&T monitor your wellbeing and assess trends on campus. Use acetaminophen (Tylenol) for treating fever.

Take your temperature twice daily. If your illness is worsening, or if you are having worrisome symptoms like difficulty breathing or chest pain, contact Student Health at 573-341-4284 or covid@mst.edu. Check out these tips from CDC if you are ill or are caring for someone who is.

If this is a medical emergency contact 911 immediately. If you are able, please put on your face covering before emergency medical services arrive.

Mental well-being

  • Establish and maintain a routine: wake, shower, dress, eat, and sleep at the same time daily.
  • Communicate and connect with family and friends by phone, text, or video chat.
  • Eat regular, healthy meals, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol or drug use.
  • Stay informed, but not overwhelmed. Be mindful of too much news and social media.
  • Engage with your Care Manager for wellbeing support.
  • Download Sanvello mental well-being app for free using your mst.edu email address.
  • Find professional support. Counseling Services offers virtual sessions at 573-341-4211.
  • Visit with a care manager during virtual office hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2-4 p.m.
  • Check out the tools and resources available through Half of Us, a partnership designed to connect students to wellbeing resources and assistance.
  • Be aware of emergency and after-hours support.
Academics

Your care manager will send an absence notification to your faculty. Please follow-up with each faculty member to coordinate remote options for lectures and coursework. If you need any assistance with that process, please let the care manager know.

Consider checking out resources available through the Office of Academic Support, especially the following resources, to get assistance with your coursework:

  • LEAD offers scheduled group tutoring sessions and learning centers.
  • The Writing Center assists undergraduates with academic or professional writing challenges.
  • Student Success Center offers one-on-one tutoring sessions and advice on study habits.
  • Student Veteran Resource Center offers virtual services for current and former armed services members.
  • S&T Advising offers academic advice or assistance. Please consider scheduling time with them.
Rules and Expectations
  • Stay in your room.
  • Stay home unless urgent medical care is needed.
  • Do not go to work, school, or public areas on or off campus.
  • Do not use common areas like lounges and kitchens in residence halls.
  • Do not visit other residents in their rooms or allow them to visit in your room.
  • Do not use public transportation.

Clean your hands often

  • Clean your hands often with soap and water (for 20 seconds) or with hand sanitizer containing 60-95% alcohol.
  • If using hand sanitizer with alcohol, cover all surfaces of your hands and rub hands together until they feel dry.
  • Use soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Clean your hands if you do touch your face.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your sleeve or a tissue – not your hands. Throw tissues away in a trashcan lined with a plastic bag, and clean your hands after you throw away the tissue.

Clean “high-touch” surfaces each day

We ask you to be responsible for cleaning your room and bathroom. Supplies are provided for you, but the supplies should remain in the facility when you leave.

  • Clean “high-touch” surfaces such as counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets and bedside tables.
  • Clean any surfaces that have blood, stool or bodily fluids on them.
  • Use household cleaning spray or a wipe. Read cleaning product label instructions for safe and effective use of the cleaning products.

Socialization

Friends and family can deliver supplies to you at the main door of your building, but you cannot have indoor visitors.

  • Visitors should not congregate outside the building to visit.
  • You should avoid contact with others and avoid being in shared spaces at the same time.
  • You should wear a face covering in shared spaces and adhere to the 6-foot social distancing guideline.
  • You may leave the building to go outdoors, but avoid contact with others,
  • You should not visit local businesses.
  • You may go for a walk but should not exercise.

Activities while in quarantine or isolation
