The following guidelines apply to non-academic events and gatherings, such as meetings, social events, etc., that are organized by any university unit or affiliated group, such as student organizations. These guidelines apply to events sponsored and/or organized by university units or affiliated groups, whether held on campus or off campus.
Effective Sept. 16, Missouri S&T has updated its COVID-19 guidance for non-academic indoor gatherings and activities to allow for up to 50% room capacity. All participants are encouraged to wear face coverings, regardless of vaccination status, and social distancing should be maintained as much as possible.
This guidance change does not affect current requirements for classrooms, labs, or other indoor teaching and learning spaces.
Outside groups wishing to meet in university-owned buildings may do so as long as they do not exceed 25% capacity and follow S&T’s recommendations regarding face coverings and social distancing. This lower capacity is due to the lower vaccination rates in Phelps County and the region in comparison to campus vaccination rates.
At this time, there are no restrictions on the size of outdoor events.

Planners of non-academic events that may exceed the 50% capacity guidance (or 25% capacity for external organizations using S&T facilities) may host events for larger groups but only if approved in advance. The university anticipates that the majority of events for the semester will be limited in scope and number of attendees, so please plan events accordingly.
Exceptions from current COVID-19 guidelines for events and gatherings should be requested at least two weeks before the date of the event.
Due to the changing nature of COVID-19, requests will not be reviewed until 30 days prior to the event.
